Ela Chapin has represented the Washington-5 district in the Vermont House of Representatives since 2023, serving East Montpelier and Middlesex, and currently sits on the House Committee on Environment after spending her first biennium on the House Committee on Judiciary. She co-chairs the Legislative Women's Caucus and holds a master's degree in environmental policy and planning from Tufts University and a bachelor's in environmental science from Brown University. Before her election in 2022, Chapin spent 15 years in economic and community development, including directing the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board's Vermont Farm and Forest Viability Program from 2006 to 2021, and is the founder of the National Farm Viability Conference and co-founder of the Agricultural Viability Alliance.
