About
Laurie Smith is a South Burlington City Council member and longtime Vermont resident with over 47 years of roots in the state, bringing a background as a self-employed builder and founder of a design-build construction company from which he retired in 2013. Prior to joining the council, he served on the South Burlington Planning Commission, where he played a central role in developing City Plan 2024, with fellow commissioners crediting him with making climate change a guiding principle of the eight-year plan. He previously founded a woodworking company in 1977, and in 2003 his energy-efficient "straw house" received a "best of the best" award from Efficiency Vermont.
