Mike Scanlan

Mike Scanlan serves on the South Burlington City Council, holding a two-year seat he won in March 2024 after retiring from a 30-year career as a U.S. diplomat in former Soviet Union countries. On the council, he has focused on priorities including green parks, bike trails, and affordable and middle-income housing. At a May 2025 council meeting, Scanlan announced his resignation due to a move out of Vermont, offering tearful remarks thanking voters for "a very unique and remarkable experience of serving our community."
