Ruth Hardy has represented the Addison District in the Vermont Senate since January 2019, having first been elected in 2018 when incumbent Claire Ayer did not seek reelection. Before her Senate career, she served as Executive Director of the Open Door Clinic, Assistant Budget Director at Middlebury College, and Executive Director of Emerge Vermont, an organization that recruits and trains women to run for public office. She holds a BA in Government from Oberlin College and a Master of Public Affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, and previously worked as a fiscal analyst for the Wisconsin Legislative Fiscal Bureau.
