About Morgan

Two lakes define Morgan: Seymour Lake and Echo Lake, both clear, deep bodies of water that draw anglers and summer visitors to this Orleans County town near the Canadian border. The town was chartered in 1780 and settled gradually through the early 1800s, with logging driving much of the early economy.

Morgan's permanent population sits around 680, though summer nearly doubles the number of occupied homes as camp owners return to the lakeshores. Seymour Lake is renowned for its lake trout and landlocked salmon fishing, and the surrounding hills offer hunting territory that has been used for generations.

Remote and quiet, Morgan is the kind of town where the road commissioner is your neighbor and the town clerk knows everyone who walks through the door. Town meeting remains the primary venue for democratic participation, a tradition these small Northeast Kingdom communities have maintained without interruption since their founding.
