About Warners Grant

With a population of zero in recent census counts, Warners Grant is one of Vermont's unorganized territories in Essex County. The grant, covering roughly 400 acres of forested land in the remote northeastern corner of the state, has never been organized as a town and has no local government, no residents, and no public roads. It is administered by a state-appointed supervisor.

Warners Grant represents a category of Vermont geography that most people never encounter — a place on the map that exists as a legal entity but not as a functioning community. The land is entirely forested, part of the vast, sparsely inhabited landscape that defines Essex County. Without residents, there is no town meeting and no selectboard. It is Vermont at its most elemental: land, trees, and the quiet that comes from true emptiness.
