About Salisbury

Chartered in 1761 by Benning Wentworth, Salisbury sits on the eastern shore of Lake Dunmore in Addison County. The town's early settlers arrived in the 1770s and found rich agricultural land between the lake and Otter Creek. Branbury State Park, on Lake Dunmore's southern shore, has drawn visitors for generations, and the falls at the outlet of Silver Lake remain a favorite local swimming hole.

With a population around 1,241, Salisbury retains the character of a small farming community. The town's location along Route 7 gives residents easy access to Middlebury, just a few miles north, while the surrounding landscape of rolling fields and forested hills keeps the pace distinctly rural. Town meeting remains the annual event where neighbors gather to set budgets, elect officers, and debate the matters that shape daily life in this corner of Vermont.
