About St. Albans Town

Surrounding the city of St. Albans on three sides and stretching west to the shores of Lake Champlain, St. Albans Town was chartered in 1763. The town's St. Albans Bay area has been a popular lakefront destination for generations, with a public beach and boat launch drawing visitors each summer. The flat, fertile farmland throughout the town has supported dairy operations since the early settlement period.

With a population of roughly 7,571, St. Albans Town is one of the larger towns in Franklin County. The community has seen residential growth as families seek the rural character of the town while staying close to the services and employment in the adjacent city. The town operates under a selectboard form of government, and residents convene each March for town meeting — a tradition that keeps direct democracy alive even as the community grows and changes.
