About Enosburgh

Chartered in 1780 and named for Roger Enos, a Revolutionary War officer, Enosburgh stretches across the rolling dairy country of Franklin County near the Canadian border. The town and its village of Enosburg Falls developed as a farming and milling center in the early 1800s, and by the late nineteenth century the village had become known for its mineral springs and patent medicine industry. The Missisquoi River runs through town, providing water power that drove local industry.

Enosburgh today has about 2,790 residents. Dairy farming remains a cornerstone of the local economy — Franklin County is Vermont's top milk-producing county — and the town hosts the Vermont Dairy Festival each June, a celebration that has run for decades. Enosburg Falls, the incorporated village within the town, has its own municipal government, creating a distinctive two-layer system. The town as a whole operates under a selectboard, and Town Meeting each March brings rural and village residents together to debate budgets, school spending, and the practical matters that keep a farming community functioning.
