About Morristown

Home to the village of Morrisville, Morristown serves as the commercial hub of Lamoille County. The town was chartered in 1781 and grew around the waterfalls on the Lamoille River, which powered sawmills, gristmills, and eventually a hydroelectric dam that still generates power today. Morrisville developed into a regional center with shops, banks, and services that surrounding towns depended on.

With over 5,200 residents, Morristown is Lamoille County's largest municipality. The town has a hospital, Copley Hospital, and sits at the crossroads of Routes 100 and 15 — making it a natural stopping point for skiers heading to Stowe and snowmobilers traversing the VAST trail network. The Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, one of the longest rail-to-trail conversions in New England, passes through town.

Morristown operates with a selectboard and town manager. The annual town meeting consistently draws participants who recognize that the decisions made in the town hall directly affect the services, roads, and schools that hold the community together.
