About Weathersfield
Chartered in 1761, Weathersfield is a large Windsor County town that stretches from the Connecticut River westward into the hills. The town encompasses several distinct villages — Perkinsville, Amsden, Downers, and Ascutney — each with its own identity. The Crown Point Military Road, built during the French and Indian War to connect the Connecticut River to Lake Champlain, passed through the area, and Weathersfield was one of the earliest settlements along that route.
Mount Ascutney, a monadnock that rises prominently above the Connecticut River valley, dominates the town's eastern skyline — Ascutney State Park provides trails to the summit. With a population of about 2,781, Weathersfield is a spread-out community where residents may feel closer to their village than to the town as a whole. The selectboard governs, and town meeting in March is the annual gathering that ties these scattered villages together into a single civic body, debating shared budgets and common priorities.
