About Westfield

Chartered in 1780, Westfield sits in Orleans County near the Canadian border, in the valley between Jay Peak and the Lowell Range. The town's early settlers found the valley floor suitable for farming, and dairy agriculture has been part of the landscape ever since. Westfield's location along Route 100 places it on one of Vermont's most scenic north-south corridors.

With a population of about 571, Westfield is a small community whose economy is influenced by its proximity to Jay Peak Resort. The resort's growth has brought jobs and visitors to the area, though the town itself retains a distinctly rural, working-class character. The Missisquoi River's headwaters flow through town, and the surrounding hills offer hunting, fishing, and the kind of backcountry access that defines life in the northern Kingdom. Town meeting each March is where residents gather to manage local affairs through direct democracy.
