About Ferrisburgh

Chartered in 1762, Ferrisburgh stretches from the shores of Lake Champlain eastward into the farmland of Addison County. The town was named for Benjamin Ferris, one of the original grantees. Its location along the lake made it an important stop in the early days of Vermont settlement, and the town played a notable role in the abolitionist movement — Rokeby, the home of the Robinson family, served as a station on the Underground Railroad and is now a National Historic Landmark and museum.

Ferrisburgh today is home to about 2,700 people. Agriculture remains visible across the landscape, with dairy farms and hayfields stretching toward the Adirondack views to the west. The town sits along Route 7, giving residents easy access to Vergennes to the south and Burlington to the north.

Local government operates through a selectboard and annual town meeting, where residents continue the centuries-old practice of direct democratic participation that Vermont is known for.
