About St. George
One of the smallest towns in Chittenden County by both area and population, St. George was chartered in 1763 but developed slowly compared to its neighbors. The town sits on gently rolling land between Williston and Hinesburg, and for most of its history it was a quiet farming community overshadowed by the larger towns around it.
With a population of about 794, St. George has experienced some growth as development pressure from the Burlington area pushes outward. The town remains largely residential and agricultural, without a traditional village center or commercial district. St. George operates under a selectboard, and town meeting each March is the annual gathering where residents make decisions about budgets, roads, and schools — the kind of direct self-governance that even the smallest Vermont communities take seriously.
