About Warren

Chartered in 1780, Warren occupies the upper Mad River Valley in Washington County, surrounded by the peaks of the Green Mountains. Sugarbush Resort, one of Vermont's major ski areas, operates on Lincoln Peak and Mount Ellen within the town's borders. The ski industry transformed Warren from a small farming community into a year-round recreation destination beginning in the late 1950s.

The Warren Store, perched beside a covered bridge in the village center, has become one of the most recognized country stores in Vermont — a place where skiers, hikers, and locals converge over sandwiches and conversation. Warren's population of about 1,682 fluctuates with the seasons, but the year-round community maintains a strong identity. The town operates under a selectboard, and the annual town meeting in March is where permanent residents set the course for a community that balances resort economics with the values of a small Vermont town.
